"REALLY MUSIC RADIO REVIEW"
Sirens "I'll Be A Kite":
I have to credit my friend and long-time "reallymusicradio" supporter Bobby Caputo for bringing these talented women to my attention. They're based in Columbus, Ohio and the title of their most recent album is "She Don't Worry." Great songwriting, fabulous harmonies and a slightly skewed sensibility...all of which are big plusses here at "reallymusicradio". As Bobby did for me, I recommend Sirens to your ears for a unique dining and dancing experience.  "Night Falls" "Make My Day" and "SOS" are other tunes you can hear from Sirens on "reallymusicradio".

Ohio Musician Magazine

"The day that the OMM team produced the very first issue of Ohio Musician Magazine, it has been our goal to write about Molly Pauken and Kay Harris."

Both Pauken and Harris have been thrilling their audience for many years with their incredible musicianship and unrivaled talent.  Kay Harris, "who sings like an angel" and Molly Pauken, "who is proficient with most stringed instruments and is particularly astounding with a bass guitar in hand," have teamed up with many other great artists to offer their newest CD release (Sirens).

This CD is chock full of the best work to-date by this mega-duo.  Sirens take many turns on this CD and there are many songs that the jazz lovers will find appealing to the ear, as well as those of us who crave a good love song.  Sirens doesn't miss the opportunity to pull the heart strings with the song "What in This World" which is a touching song even for the toughest love-song critic. Waiting for Ryan is a tribute to motherhood, a lullaby in the making. The song Smile is one of the most catching songs I have heard in years.  Laksmi's Lament is a perfect song, which utilizes the enormous talent of Allen DiCenzo. This song was also recorded in his state-of-the-art facility, "Circa Productions", located in Central Ohio.  Blood is Red and Time Thing are punchy expressions of their roots in schooled music, and the lyrics offer a story beyond radio simplicity.

Beyond the music, the cover art of this CD is worth the asking price of the CD. The renowned Dave Egan, "a legendary engineer/producer/artist who has an eye for the subtle", produced the design and layout of the CD. The cover art "created by Cindy Matyi an Ohio resident is unbelievable. It brings you back to the days when cover art was an important and respected part of the music business. Sirens have been keeping up a fast-paced performance schedule, which means that you will find an opportunity to see this talented duo live and in person. After you take a listen to this CD, you won't want to miss a live show! "

"Sirens" CD ranks in the 10 top Columbus releases for 2000!

"With today's basement studios putting out darn good digital-quality sound, your mother and her tone-deaf neighbor can put out a disc. In fact, they probably already have.  And as the sea of submissions we get here attests, that's no secret.  If nothing else, it's getting more time consuming to separate the wheat from the chaff.  But we submit, for your consideration and future purchase, 10 more local discs released this year that more than transcend the Columbus status quo:"

"Sirens, (Kay Harris, Molly Pauken and band) deliver a dozen songs that transcend genre classifications.  In a way it represents more a holistic view of music, where beauty is realized in melody or movement first, and an appropriate flavor is then added as accompaniment.  Few locals take this route, probably because few can realize music as Harris and Pauken do."

"I believe you can rate a musical work by its ability to transport the listener. Sometimes music deliberately seeks to be escapist, through production tricks or electronic sleight of hand. Other times it happens more accidentally, naturally. The Sirens' self-titled debut is one such example."

"Sirens represents the first full-length collaboration of longtime local session players' Kay Harris and Molly Pauken. Harris on vocals, Pauken on various guitars, and some of their friends deliver a dozen songs that balance a range of styles and emotions. All is powerfully delivered, with either moderate abandon or restraint, with more of the latter represented with gentle acoustic orchestrations."

"When true musical grace and balance is reached, the listener, if open to suggestion, is carried off as though hypnotized by music in tune, rhythmically precise, with just the right vocal or instrumental inflections. In short, it occurs when there are no imperfections to distract.  From a reviewer who hates superlatives, Sirens is no less than an amazing accomplishment."

"Sirens Are Red Hot!"
"According to Greek mythology, Sirens were female creatures who lured men to destruction by the sweetness of their singing. Although Columbus' own sweet angels of sound are hitting big, they are gaining new fans rather than destroying male suitors. This month's Columbus Music Scene Close-Up focuses on these two established and versatile musicians. Performing separately as well as together in Columbus for close to ten years, Kay Harris and Molly Pauken have finally come together for an entire CD of eclectic pop/adult contemporary tunes, self-titled Sirens. On October 28, they kicked off their CD release with a party at the Grandview Café."

"Playing to a packed house, their performance offered a wide variety of tunes from the CD, as well as familiar covers. Kay Harris is able to ease through their rendition of Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason" with more folk than Tracy Chapman. She has a one-of-a-kind flawless voice that is giant in sound and sensual in delivery. She really shines on songs like "Pendulum" and "Blood is Red". Molly shares musical duties with Kay as she switches from bass to acoustic in the live show, as well as drums, piano, bongos, percussion and electric guitar on the CD. The song "Sensibility", broken down to just Kay's vocals and Molly's guitar, carries a certain raw appeal absent in a lot of today's music. Even though Molly plays a number of instruments live as well as on the CD, she seems most at home and alive on bass. Songs like "Time Thing" allow her to display her funk and rock influences. Also on the set list are songs like "What In This World", a slow soulful ballad highlighted by Craig Markley's acoustic piano. Playing with them as a four piece are Jeff Peters on drums and Pete Cary on guitar."

"Kay Harris and Molly Pauken have been around the Columbus music scene for many years. They have never had problems finding work. Whether it is songwriting, performing or doing jingles, Columbus has allowed them to display their talents in many ways. It was only a matter of time before they collaborated on an entire collection of mature and uplifting pop songs. Both have full repertoires of playing songwriting, sings and producing."
